Here's everything you need to know about April the giraffe and her calf's momentous moment.
April the giraffe finally gives birthWhile the calf's weight is now unknown, zoo officials said they weigh around 150 pounds and are about 6-feet tall at birth.
This is April's fourth calf and Oliver's first, and is also the first giraffe ever born at Animal Adventure."His entrance into the world was unnerving to even those of us who have witnessed animal births previously", said Animal Adventure Park owner, Jordan Patch.
The not-yet-named male baby giraffe was running around with its mother within three hours of birth at the private zoo in Harpursville, a village 130 miles (210 kilometers) northwest of New York City.
April teased her millions of global adorers for weeks, showing signs of near-but-not-quite labor and otherwise enchanting her audience with cute right-at-the-camera gazes and tongue flicks, snack noshing and nuzzling with her much younger but handsome 5-year-old beau.
Less than an hour after the calf was born, it started to stand up on its legs while April assisted him.
Patch says people are donating more than five dollars to get their name of choice chosen.
The 15-year-old giraffe had her baby around 9 a.m. Saturday morning. This is his first offspring. Animal Adventure Park exclaimed on its Facebook post.
April's fans can continue to watch mother and baby on livestream now.
The contest is being held for 10 days, and then a second round of voting, which will be narrowed down to the top 10 names, will be held for five days.
