GOP health victory may be fleeting as wary Senate awaits

He signed the bill in his New Jersey home, the first piece of major legislation he has signed into law as president.

An example comes from the Democrat-leaning National Farmers Union and its president, a former North Dakota agriculture commissioner.

Thursday's vote by the House of Representatives to undo major parts of former USA president Barack Obama's signature domestic achievement, which enabled 20 million more Americans to get health insurance, was Mr Trump's biggest legislative victory since he took office in January.

"I wonder if she even considered that this health plan will hurt a LOT of the people in her district", Bill Radloff of Saranac Lake wrote, "but hey, its not Obamacare, so its ok, right?"

Based on the previous CBO analysis in March, costs would likely decrease for young and higher income people while costs would increase for older and lower income people.

Dr. Cervone said he thinks patients were making out better under Obamacare because it enabled them to go to a doctor and avoid putting off conditions until they get worse.

The White House expects the Senate to embrace the main provisions of the House-passed American Health Care Act (AHCA) despite senators quickly signaling that they will craft their own version of the bill.

Congressman Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley) was one of 217 Republicans to vote in support of the plan, which was approved by just one vote. "We will continue to voice our concerns as the law moves to the Senate". With only two potentially vulnerable GOP incumbents on the ballot in 2018 (Dean Heller and Jeff Flake), Senate Republicans do not have to worry about the impatience from the Trump White House or obsessing over their bygone promises to repeal Obamacare.

Republicans have found overturning Obamacare politically perilous, partly because of voter fears, loudly expressed at constituents' town-hall meetings, that many people would lose their health insurance as a result. One such provision prohibits the Justice Department from using any funds to block implementation of medical marijuana laws by states and USA territories.

"I don't have room to cut; that's the problem with the per cap", McAuliffe said. "Has he ever acknowledged our contribution to him and his family?"

Wrangling now shifts to the Senate, where Republicans, who hold a slim majority there, say they are readying their own health care measure.

Rep. Ken Buck, a Republican, sits on the rules committee that heard debate on the bill and amendments.

Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., who chairs the conservative Freedom Caucus that has sought to pull the bill to the right, said he's already talked to more than a dozen senators about the bill, including Sen.

He promised individuals under 26 could remain on their parents' health insurance. The bill's passage has stirred an vast amount of fear and concern, given what it would mean for Americans with pre-existing health conditions, what it would do to their premiums, and what would happen to millions of people who'd lose their coverage as a result. Immediately after the health care vote, House Republicans piled onto buses and headed to the White House for a sun-splashed Rose Garden celebration - a rare event for a bill that has cleared only one chamber of Congress.

"It is encouraging to know that in recent years Minnesota made significant progress on a key health equity issue by eliminating insurance disparities between rural and urban residents", Health Commissioner Dr. Ed Ehlinger said.

"Make no mistake, this is a repeal and a replace of Obamacare", Trump said.

The Health Department claims that repealing current federal law could cost Minnesota $2.5 billion and affect 1.1 million Minnesotans.

Under Obamacare, states were encouraged to expand Medicaid eligibility, with the federal government picking up the full cost for the initial years and dropping to 90 percent after 2020.

MNsure's chief executive officer said Minnesotans should not worry about this year's coverage, regardless of what Congress does. "There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can't pay for it, you don't get it".
