Portugal et l'Italie apparaissaient samedi comme les grands favoris de la finale de l'Eurovision, show musical européen aux 200 millions de téléspectateurs organisé à Kiev, capitale d'un pays en guerre comme l'ont rappelé des combats meurtriers.

Il partage le haut du podium des parieurs avec un Italien énergique qui chante accompagné d'un faux gorille, Francesco Gabbani. L'artiste portugais de 27 ans à la barbe clairsemée souffre d'une sévère insuffisance cardiaque qui l'a empêché de participer aux répétitions. Son titre "Amar pelos dois " est une ballade très classique en langue portugaise portée par des violons et la voix douce du chanteur.

Encore inconnu il y a quelque semaines, Salvador Sobral pourrait offrir au Portugal sa toute première victoire. En remportant le concours, le pays succède à l'Ukraine qui avait gagné l'Eurovision l'année dernière grâce à la chanteuse Jamala et son titre 1944.

Sa prestation a tranché avec celle, peu avant, de Francesco Gabbani qui a conquis l'Italie avec son entraînant "Occidentali's karma", interprété de sa voix éraillée à côté d'un danseur déguisé en gorille. "Nous sommes tous comme des singes nus".

Les demi-finales ont déjà offert un moment larmoyant lorsque la candidate de la Macédoine Jana Burceska a reçu en direct une demande en mariage, acceptée sous les applaudissements.

Un an après une victoire très politique de l'Ukraine devant la Russie, le contexte s'est révélé de nouveau chargé pour l'émission, organisée dans un pays meurtri par plus de trois ans de guerre et sans la candidate russe Ioulia Samoïlova.

Conçu comme un ferment d'unité européenne, le concours de l'Eurovision disputé pour la première fois en Suisse en 1956, en pleine Guerre froide, est devenu une chambre d'écho des rivalités nationales. La jeune brune de 28 ans n'a pas tremblé.

Les quatre victimes de samedi, trois femmes et un homme à Avdiïvka, près du fief rebelle de Donetsk, portent à 14 le nombre de civils et soldats ukrainiens morts depuis le début du mois dans l'Est de l'Ukraine, selon les bilans des autorités.
