Apple reportedly updating entire MacBook lineup at WWDC

MacBook Air 2017 release date, specs rumors: Successor of current MacBook Air in production

According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is rumored to introduce new MacBook and MacBook Pro upgrades at WWDC 2017 which kicks off next month. This goes against Apple's own declaration that said that the company had planned the 13-inch Macbook Pro as a replacement for the Air. But sadly, there's no word on a better screen.

The company will also update the 12-inch MacBook, the thin-and-light notebook Apple has been selling for a couple of years now. The chips found in the current 12-inch MacBook are quite a bit zippier than the chips used in the first iteration of the 12-inch MacBook, but substantially faster chips (and the Kaby Lake chips suitable for the 12-inch MacBook are noticeably faster than the current Skylake ones) would probably significantly improve the user experience, given the very tight power constraints on the chips inside such slim/fan-less devices. But while the company makes most of its money from the iPhone, Apple has also faced pressure to do more with its computer lineup.

Apple and Intel declined to comment. This year, however, WWDC will be a tad more exciting.

Interestingly, Bloomberg stipulates that Apple could be on the verge of launching a new Macbook Air as well.

The updated MacBook Pro would look much the same as the latest model and mostly differ in internal architecture, one of the people said. Upon its initial release last Fall, Apple's flagship notebook was lambasted for being overpriced and underpowered. The most recent MacBook Pro, released more than 500 days after its predecessor, added a Touch Bar keyboard strip for quick access to app functions, a larger trackpad and a fingerprint log-in sensor.

And lastly, the Korean report states that "the KGI Securities examiner expressed that the MacBook Pro 2017 would most likely be outfitted with various updates".

Additionally, it's reassuring to see that Apple hasn't completely forgotten about the MacBook Air.

Apple is also expected to announce an upgraded version of the macOS operating system at the conference in June.

For the past few years, Apple's hasn't launched new hardware at its annual developer conference.
