"On ransomware, since March, the government of India has been on high alert. We have already installed the necessary security in batches as far as the government key networks are concerned", said Sundararajan at the inaugural session here of Broadband India Forum.

In response to the proposed tightening of the visa regime, the Indian IT firms have been ramping up hiring of locals in the U.S., a market that accounts for nearly 60 per cent of the India's tech export revenues.

Sundararajan said that apart from five or six isolated instances, there are no reports of any significant damage in the country. "Overall, there was no report on any kind of substantive scale to indicate that Indian systems have actually been affected".

The IT secretary further added: "It is true that new technologies are emerging". Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Monday had said the cyber attack by ransomware virus "WannaCrypt" had almost zero impact in India. After talking to Microsoft, we had asked people to install patch system in March. "We are strengthening our areas", the Minister had said.

The government of India, on Tuesday, 16 May 2017 said that the IT industry has assured it that there will be no large-scale job losses in the sector which continue to grow at 8-9%.

She also said that the IT sector will continue to hire and has added 5 lakh jobs in the last 2.5 years.

"There may be some changes in the profile of work or the profile of verticles within the IT sector because that is a dynamic sector".

"The Indian government is already (working) in close co- ordination with United States authorities.the value proposition and partnership between India and the U.S. is well known.So we hope that any changes or review of the regime will be built on that foundation", she added. The issue needs to be looked at "holistically", she said.
