Infant Found in Magnolia with Nearly 100 Rodent Bites Parents Arrested

Upon speaking with emergency personnel, officers learned that the child was 15 days old, weighed approximately 5 pounds and had suffered severe rodent bites, according to a police affidavit. She underwent facial reconstruction surgery to treat a wound on her head, the Democrat-Gazette reports. The infant had to be transported to another hospital due to the severity of the injuries, KTVH reports.

Police spoke with Elliott's mother, the child's grandmother, who said he told her a mouse bit the baby and that he was anxious about losing custody.

Elliott and Shyrock are being held in the Columbia County jail in Arkansas.

Shyrock told police that she laid the infant down to sleep at approximately 5:30 a.m. that morning in a bassinet that was placed next to the bed that she and Elliott slept in. She said she saw the bites, the baby covered in blood and dried blood in the bassinet. However, he waited for his mother to arrive before they took the child to the hospital. They found a bassinet in the living room, where it had been moved Sunday morning from the bedroom in which the couple was staying. They also found a baby's hat and blanket soaked in blood, and rodent droppings on a nearby bedside table.

"Williams told Lt. Kirby that she woke up at around 5:30 a.m.to the baby crying". She said she noticed the hole in the baby's head and said the blood was dry. Both admitted that they knew there was a rat problem in their home, and they also admitted that they failed to take care of the issue.

Police were called to the hospital after the infant girl's parents brought her in on Sunday, according to KARK in Little Rock.

The physician determined the damage would have taken 'hours to occur and the baby would have been in distress during that time.' The doctor suggested that the parents were 'either incapacitated or absent to not have responded to the baby's distress'.

"Lock them up and let rats eat them alive.better yet. put a rat on their stomachs put a pot over it then put a flamethrower to the pot.torture these filthy animals more filthy then the actual rodents feeding on their newborn!" one PIX 11 reader commented on the site's Facebook page after the horrifying story went viral.
