Star Trek: Discovery Trailer Shows New Cast; Release Date Set For Fall

During CBS' Upfront presentation, the first trailer for Star Trek: Discovery was unveiled and gave us a glimpse at all the odd new worlds and wonderous alien creatures which we'll be exploring in Star Trek's return to the small-screen. The trailer has gotten quite a few dislikes on YouTube, so perhaps they know something we don't. Given how controversial the reboot films have been among many longtime Trek fans, Discovery will likely want to carve its own space - and give itself a little distance from the recent films. The image below showcases Captain Philippa Georgiou, played by Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon star Michelle Yeoh, and Lt. Michael Burnham, played by The Walking Dead's Sonequa Martin-Green.

Star Trek: Discovery will be the first new Star Trek show in 12 years, and will actually take place 10 years before the events of its predecessor, The Enterprise.

We get a look at the new ship, numerous characters, and a variety of alien worlds. Star Trek Discovery premieres this fall.

Other members of the cast include Michelle Yeoh (playing Captain Georgiou), Doug Jones as Lt. Saru and Anthony Rapp as Lt. Staments, the first openly gay character in the franchise's history. Will this be worth subscribing to CBS' All-Access streaming service?

Star Trek: Discovery will debut on CBS later this year on CBS. However, it also hints a return to the kind of moral quandaries and philosophical discussions that made the earlier Star Trek TV shows compelling.
