Congressman calls for Trump's impeachment on House floor

And now it's not just Democrats; Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., was asked by reporters Wednesday whether, if reports that Trump asked Comey to drop his investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn are true, Trump's actions are grounds for impeachment.

Houston Congressman Al Green called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump on the floor of Congress Wednesday morning.

"It is not squishy New York Times conservatives who regard the president as a child, an intellectual void, a hopeless case, a threat to national security", Douthat wrote. The White House has denied the report.

As the backlash over President Donald Trump's various controversial decisions escalates - the firing of FBI Director James B. Comey and divulging classified secrets to Russian officials, just to name two - Trump's critics are starting to use the "i" word more and more.

Trump himself vented his frustration during a commencement address at the US Coast Guard Academy. "I do not do this for political purposes, Mr. Speaker".

Trump urged graduating cadets to follow his example and "fight, fight, fight".

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 372 points, and was down 1.8 percent - the biggest one day decline since the president was elected. President Johnson came close, being only vote short of conviction, but President Clinton wasn't even close to being removed.

But perhaps shaken by the gravity of recent developments, the leaders of the Senate committees on intelligence and the judiciary, and the House panel on government oversight, demanded that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and White House hand over records related to Comey. The American Civil Liberties Union has also filed for access to a reported Comey memo of the encounter.

The legislation is the latest from California Democrats who have lined up against Trump since the November election.

The White House has played down the importance and secrecy of the information Trump gave to the Russians, which had been supplied by Israel under an intelligence-sharing agreement.

Russia issued the first photos of Trump, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, and Russia's Ambassador to the US Sergei Kislyak meeting in the Oval Office. Yet US allies and some members of Congress have expressed alarm.

Republicans are calling it political grandstanding, however.

U.S. lawmakers shot down the prospect of Putin providing evidence to congressional investigations, with Senator Susan Collins dismissing the notion as "absurd".

Ryan supported the White House.

"He needs to right the ship", Collins told Newsradio WGAN.

"We can not allow this to go unchecked".

"I think we've seen this movie before", McCain said during a dinner Tuesday evening.

President Trump has been embroiled in a series of scandals that have made investors concerned.

Still, other Republicans were standing by their man.

I suspect Republican congressmen and senators are so terrified of the cultists in their party that they'd find it hard to impeach, even if they wanted to. "This is a new administration".
