Harden, James top All-NBA team; George, Hayward shut out

The NBA announced today that New Orleans Pelicans forward/center Anthony Davis has been named to the 2016-17 All-NBA First Team.

In his MVP-caliber season, Harden set career-highs in scoring 29.1 points per game, which is the 2nd highest in the National Basketball Association right now.

James and Westbrook were on 99 first-team ballots, and second team on the lone other.

Other NBA awards, including Most Valuable Player and Coach of the Year, will be revealed June 26 at the new NBA Awards Show in NY.

The All-NBA Third Team consisted of Chicago forward Jimmy Butler and Golden State forward Draymond Green, center DeAndre Jordan of the Los Angeles Clippers, Toronto guard DeMar DeRozan and Washington guard John Wall.

It was assumed all season long that James Harden would make a return to the All-NBA teams, and now it's official. "Obviously I feel like I should be a first-team player, but it is what it is". Boston must find a way to slow down James - who had 38 points, nine rebounds and seven assists - while not getting eaten up by a supporting cast, which other than Kevin Love's big game, didn't produce at its usual high rate.

The NBA's remaining 2016-17 award winners will be revealed during the inaugural NBA Awards on TNT, which will be hosted by platinum-selling recording artist and multifaceted entertainer Drake on Tuesday, June 27 at Basketball City in NY. His now contract runs through 2020-21, but the final year of the deal include a player opt out clause. It included getting within 11 points with less than 2 minutes to play.

Joining James and Harden on the first team were Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook, San Antonio's Kawhi Leonard and New Orleans' Anthony Davis. The players' union and the owners worked out a special dispensation that allows them to sign new extensions this summer, which otherwise would not have been allowed. Wall will probably best be remembered this season for his game-winning 3-pointer vs. the Bostin Celtics in a must-win Game 6 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Former Kentucky men's basketball stars Karl-Anthony Towns and DeMarcus Cousins almost made the All-NBA Teams as well. The balloting was tabulated by the independent accounting firm of Ernst & Young LLP.
