He was part of India's victorious 2013 Champions Trophy campaign, and last played worldwide cricket during the 2014 Asia Cup in Bangladesh.

Manish Pandey has been replaced with wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in England and Wales after the former sustained a left side strain during a practice session.

Karthik, who played for the Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League (IPL), amassed 361 runs, which included two brilliant half centuries.

Karthik had last played in India colours in the Asia Cup contest against Afghanistan in 2014. Australia, hosts England, New Zealand and Bangladesh are in Group A.

Suresh Raina, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur were the others the reserves list, just in case those in the squad broke down at the end of a busy season. India were then playing under MS Dhoni and will now play under Virat Kohli who was given the full-time captaincy in the limited overs format after Dhoni stepped down from the position earlier this year. Karthik scored total of 607 runs from 9 innings at 86.71, with an impressive strike-rate of 102.01.

The defending champions will begin their Champions Trophy campaign again arch rival Pakistan on June 4 in Birmingham following matches against Sri Lanka and South Africa on June 8 and June 11 respectively.
