India maintain top spot in ICC Test rankings South Africa six points behind in second place

India have retained the No 1 ranking in Tests after a magnificent performance in the last couple of seasons.

South Africa are in the second position.

India stayed at number one position in test rankings while South Africa gained eight points to remain at number two, as the recent update was provided by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday.

India was the number 1 Test team after they won the Border-Gavaskar trophy defeating Australia. This extended the winning streak for India as they had secured series wins in Sri Lanka and the West Indies and beaten South Africa at home.

The Proteas (117 points) have reduced the gap with India to six points while nine points now separate third-ranked Australia from seventh-ranked Sri Lanka as per latest ICC release. The annual update this time considered several factors.

While India and South Africa have made upward movements, Australia, England and Pakistan have headed in the opposite direction, according to an ICC statement. The series results from 2013-14 were no longer included while outcome from the 2015-16 series had a weightage of 50 percent in the points calculation. Gaining a solitary point, India moved to 123 on the points table.

Meanwhile, Australia have been slipped to the third position.

Pakistan dropped behind New Zealand in sixth place to sit on 93 points.

The Tigers are now six points behind West Indies, who gained five points.
