The Chechen government, along with Russian Federation, have denied that this has been happening, claiming that Chechnya hasn't been harming gay people because they are no gay people in Chechnya.

According to Buzzfeed, approximately 40 gay men have fled Chechnya under fear of torture and death, and those seeking visas to other nations are having no luck reaching out to either the European Union or the United States. In April, another report came out that claimed that gay men in Chechnya were allegedly being killed or sent to makeshift prisons.

The Russia LGBT Network has accused the USA of declining to give visas to gay Chechens fleeing their country's months-long campaign of kidnapping, detainment and torture.

As has been reported, gay men in Chechnya have been being systematically kidnapped, tortured, and murdered this year.

A U.S. State Department spokesperson told BuzzFeed News, : "As visa records are confidential under U.S. law, we are unable to discuss individual cases". Linkevičius said his government "issued visas to two people from Chechnya who were persecuted due to their sexual orientation".

The United States has declined visas to gay Chechens fleeing a wave of kidnappings, torture, and disappearances in the semi-autonomous Russian region, according to the organization Russia LGBT Network. Chechnya continues to deny the atrocities they are committing, arguing that there can not be any attacks on gay men in the nation because there are no gay men in the nation. "The number of sources and the consistency of the stories leaves us with no doubt that these devastating developments have indeed occurred".

Spokeswoman Svetlana Zakharova told Buzzfeed that "negotiations have been difficult" with representatives of countries that could provide safe refuge.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said in mid-April that the reports of this abuse "cannot be ignored" in a statement that was lauded for taking a stand against the alleged abuses of President Kadyrov.
