Penguins To Start Matt Murray In Goal

What a difference a day makes. It turned out to be a mistake starting Murray. That is something that will have to improve - and fast - if the Penguins are to turn this series around.

The Capitals trail the best-of-seven series 2-1, but have outshot the Penguins in each game thus far.

If the Penguins have any hope of winning this series now, it's time for Sullivan to cash out his chips while he's ahead and go back to Murray for Game 4.

The Senators wasted the great Anderson performance in game 2 by not generating enough offense in transition when they got turnovers, but that wasn't an issue as they gave their goaltender some early goal support. They are focused on the goal of sending the Penguins packing.

Winger Bobby Ryan makes no apologies for it.

As Ryan notes, that's not a bad thing at this time of year. I think it's a readiness.

Because you proably would have missed a furious 138-second span in which the Sens tacked on three more goals, courtesy of Marc Methot, Derick Brassard and Zack Smith.

Murray was the Penguins' clear No. 1 goalie throughout the regular season, and for all but a game and a relief appearance in last spring's championship run.

"Each time I've gotten hurt, I've come back stronger and that's all you can do", Murray said Thursday after practice at the University of Ottawa.

Ottawa has managed to limit Pittsburgh's scoring chances and Craig Anderson has come up large when needed. "It doesn't matter if you play against Ottawa or Washington", the 30-year-old Russian said.

"I would stack our '76 team up against anybody in any era", Hall of Fame defenseman Larry Robinson said. "I know our line's been trying to play pretty simple and I think that's been beneficial for us".

"We played like [expletive]", Matt Cullen told reporters, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Since we haven't checked the population of the world lately, we can't argue with Boucher on his numbers.

"It's something you kind of have to keep in the back of your mind". Add it all together and what do you get? So we'll have to be aware of that (Friday).

I agree with this decision, and yet it feels savage. "It's out of my control, so I don't really think too much about it". "They're extremely hard decisions and this is the choice that we made for Game 4". They're a proven team. They are 11-2 over the past two seasons following a playoff loss.

The Senators, boring? They were anything but in this one and now they're only two wins away from a trip to the Cup final.

What is it about Ottawa hockey teams and the years ending in the lucky Number 7? The Senators haven't backed down to anyone and they're not about to start.

Even if Sullivan goes with Murray, though, the Penguins can still win Game 4. "We capitalized on some chances, and it's just good to see that every line chipped in".

Responsible defensive hockey, 1-3-1, or trap, whatever you want to call it, has been effective for the Senators. And if Sullivan does decide to go with Fleury, well, Ottawa had better be ready to take advantage again. They're a team that's been through it.

Vehicle horns blared, yet it had nothing to do with the slow crawl out of the Canadian Tire Centre parking lots.

"Still waiting", Boucher said Thursday. A bad bounce off the boards set up Mike Hoffman for an easy goal from a bad angle less than a minute into the game. So I'll wait to get something more specific.

The pre-game spectacle also featured one of the city's other on-ice superstars, world curling champion Rachel Homan.

"We were just alive", he said.

If Burrows is unavailable, the club has no shortage of depth.

If he can't play then expect Tommy Wingels to suit up.

Senators lead the series 2-1.

Penguins are 1-4 in their last 5 vs.
