Salvador Sobral won with his song "Amar Pelos Dois", which translates as For the Both of Us. The song is entirely in Portuguese. I want to be known as a musician. The move allowed Russia-Ukraine tensions over Eurovision to fester. The race was viewed by more than 204 million TV audience in European countries and other countries across the globe.

Moldova's SunStroke Project finished a surprising third, with a bouncy, jazzy song called Hey Mamma! that featured a clever stage routine in which the female back-up singers hid their microphones in bridal bouquets.

The early favorite, Francesco Gabbani of Italy, finished sixth.

Romania came seventh with an unlikely combination of yodelling and rap, while Azerbaijan's act in 14th place featured a man wearing a horse's head on a stepladder.

Sobral took a different take in his performance on Saturday - singing from a small elevated circle in the middle of the crowd. "Everyone loves it. And you just wanna be here!" shouted Jasmine from Britain, wearing a garland of ribbons and flowers.

Kristian Kostov, 17, has become the youngest contestant in Eurovision to reach this stage.

And that news led President Poroshenko to cancel his appearance at Eurovision.

In the Grand Final, juries and viewers from all 42 participating countries can voted after the 26 finalists performed.

Russian Federation was also conspicuously absent.

She added: "Fantastic performance".

Russian Federation responded by refusing to air the contest and viewers in separatist eastern Ukraine were also unable to watch.

"Russia's participation was scuttled by host Ukraine over the two nations' diplomatic and military conflict".

It's the first time Portugal have won the contest in 53 years of trying.

The song attained 758 points, ahead of Bulgaria in second on 615 points and Moldova in third on 374 points, and way up from last year's victor Jamala for Ukraine, which received 534 points. The union, however, has been criticized for not barring "1944" past year, allowing Russia-Ukraine tensions to fester.
