Mais pour les autres, la préfecture des Landes vient d'ordonner la décision d'euthanasier une centaine d'animaux.

Raison invoquée: les animaux seraient porteurs d'une forme d'herpès "dangereux pour l'Homme", pouvant engendrer en cas de morsure "des risques neurologiques graves". "L'abattage d'un certain nombre de macaques de Java provenant du parc animalier la Pinède des Singes, fermé après sa mise en liquidation judiciaire, est en cours -", a ainsi confirmé à l'AFP la préfecture des Landes, peu avant 12h00, sans préciser le nombre de macaques concernés ni les raisons exactes de cette décision.

La fondation Brigitte Bardot a dénoncé de son côté un "scandale", une "honte".

Les singes d'un parc animalier des Landes ont tous été euthanasiés ce vendredi, après le placement en liquidation judiciaire du site en 2016.

Selon la préfecture, qui se base sur les conclusions de l'Agence nationale de sécurité sanitaire (Anses), les séquelles neurologiques et cognitives sont sévères et invalidantes même lorsque les malades survivent.

La préfecture informera plus précisément, notamment sur le nombre exact de macaques euthanasiés, "une fois l'opération terminée, en fin de journée", indique-t-elle.

Avant que ne soit officiellement connu le motif de l'euthanasie, la Fondation Brigitte Bardot avait demandé vendredi dans la matinée au préfet du département de suspendre ce qu'elle qualifiait de "tuerie scandaleuse".

L'association de protection des animaux s'étonne, parce qu'elle avait reçu en 2016 l'assurance qu'un "repreneur avait été trouvé pour assurer la poursuite de l'activité et le maintien des animaux" sur le site de Labenne.

Depuis un an, ce sont les propriétaires du zoo voisin de Labenne et une salariée de la Pinède qui ont pris en charge les primates. Selon Sud Ouest, il est impossible, pour le moment, de déterminer comment ces macaques ont contracté le virus.
