Comedian Kathy Griffin to address fake Trump head controversy

On Friday, the aftermath of the controversial Tyler Shields photoshoot featuring Kathy Griffin holding a prop of Donald Trump's bloody severed head was addressed by Kathy Griffin at a press conference alongside her attorney, Lisa Bloom.

The Secret Service has opened an investigation into the creepy photo and video Griffin tweeted Tuesday, forcing the comic to hire a criminal defense attorney to handle any charges.

"What's happening to me has never happened in this great country", Griffin said during a press conference on Friday, referring to Trump and his family members' tweets in response to the photo shoot.

After TMZ reported on the photo shoot, Griffin came under attack from conservatives and liberals alike. CNN fired her from her New Year's Eve co-hosting gig with Anderson Cooper, which Griffin had appeared on since 2007.

She has apologized for the incident, and said today that she stands by her apology, with TMZ.com reporting that Griffin said she wishes she had used a blowup doll instead, with less ketchup.

President Trump said the image of Griffin with the gory mask resembling him was "sick" and that it had traumatized his family, especially his youngest son, 11-year-old Barron. I understand how it offends people. "I make mistakes. I'm an out-there comedian". "I'm going to get in ahead of the game", Griffin told the reporter.

Speaking on Friday, Griffin insisted it was a parody meant to address Mr Trump's remark past year that former Fox News presenter Megyn Kelly had "blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of wherever".

Griffin reiterated on Friday that she had made "a disgusting mistake", saying the bloodied head image was meant as a retort to comments aimed by Trump at the United States journalist Megyn Kelly during the election campaign. "And then I was like this isn't right, it's just not right".

Griffin, known for her role in the late 1990s sitcom "Suddenly Susan" and starring in an eponymous reality TV show "My Life on the D-List" a decade later, as well as for a long running stand-up career, apologized for the stunt on Tuesday, saying she "went too far".

"Of course, you gotta make fun of Trump", she said. She added that she had received death threats. I have no desire to hurt anybody.

Griffin's lawyer said the photo wasn't meant to suggest violence against the president.
