Major League Baseball to allow personalized jerseys and more during new "Players Weekend"

Major League Baseball has allowed its players to wear nicknames on the back of their uniforms as a part of Players Weekend, which will take place from august 25-27.

The jerseys will be auctioned off after the weekend, with proceeds going to a joint MLBPA/MLB charity.

The different colors of the equipment must also be approved to avoid conflicts among opposing teams as well as so they don't cause the umpires to make bad calls.

Other items that have "minimal color restrictions" include gloves, wristbands, batting gloves, compression sleeves, and catcher's mask.

As part of the MLB's "Players Weekend", players will be allowed to don nicknames on the back of their jerseys, Yahoo's Jeff Passan reported Wednesday. For example, both white gloves and cleats are banned during the weekend-long event. It was negotiated between the league and the MLB Players Association, according to Yahoo Sports.

In a rare twist, the heads of Major League Baseball are actually doing something fun.

All I really do know is that one of the dudes better put "HE HATE ME" on the back of a jersey.

I wonder, though, if this is the start of Major League Baseball becoming like the minor leagues. Will we one day see the Cubs wearing Smokey Bear-themed jerseys, or maybe the Phillies sponsored by blunts? This is just the beginning.
