A pro-Muslim supporter (L) and a demonstrator with the "March Against Sharia" protest try to block out each others signs during a protest in Chicago, June 10, 2017. Some of the protesters carried assault rifles, but rules dictated that they remain unloaded.

However, the people who attended the anti-Muslim protests were less in number and cities like New York, Chicago, and Seattle witnessed large counter-protests, The Guardian reported. Marches against Islamic law were planned Saturday in more than two dozen cities acro.

On its website, Act for America, which sponsored the rally, calls itself "the NRA of national security". The group organizing the rallies, "Act for America", claims Shariah law is incompatible with western democracy.

The hate group was founded by Brigitte Gabriel, a Lebanese Christian immigrant.

"They are calling them "Anti-Sharia" rallies, but let us call them what they are: "Anti-Muslim" protests", Linda Sarsour, renowned American Muslim activist and Women's March organizer, wrote on Facebook.

At its peak, the anti-Sharia rally had about 50 participants.

"Terrorists themselves have said there is no difference between Islam and Sharia Law", Zamora said.

"I think Sharia is largely misunderstood and it's not all like that. And if you don't stand up for it now, who knows what you are going to be able to do in the future".

UNIDENTIFIED PROTESTORS: (Chanting) Stay. Clusters of protesters and counter-protesters gathered on four corners of an intersection at a memorial to the slain, yelling and waving American flags and posters proclaiming various causes. After being blocked by police, the protesters turned back and made their way up Third Street. One, a juvenile, was arrested by Capitol police for disorderly conduct.

The anti-Muslim protesters were met by counter-protesters who denounced their rhetoric as demeaning and insensitive. Both sides had left the area by 12:30 p.m., with the counter protesters leaving first.

Across the street, a few hundred people gathered with banners reading "Fascists out of NYC". She brought her 11-year-old daughter with her to let those who follow Sharia Law know that they are welcome in CT, especially during this holy time of Ramadan.

There were many similar demonstrations across the country Saturday.

In Seattle, protesters could be heard singing: "No hate, no fear, Muslims are welcome here", as footage showed the two groups involved in a physical altercation.

Protesters chanted "USA!" and waved signs, including one that said "Islam is not American", near the county's Inland Regional Center, where a Pakistani American couple fatally shot 14 people in 2015.

Saturday's unity rally featured speeches from various faith and community leaders, as well as music and dance performances.

The rally in Richardson happened very close to a mosque.

"We're about love, not hate", she said.
