Trump goes from regal to rustic this weekend at Camp David

He went without one of his signature lengthy ties, she was stylishly casual as well in a belted shirtdress - a $1,795 Gabriela Hearst design - while their son, Barron, sported Arsenal Football Club soccer shorts. Along with the president was his wife Melania and their 11-year-old son Barron - and Melania's parents.

The eschewing of typical Trump things went beyond neckties.

Since taking power on January 20, Trump has spent most weekends at his resort estate Mar-a-Lago in Florida.

This will be Trump's first visit to Camp David, the Maryland retreat where presidents seclude themselves in nature among the Catoctin Mountains.

Well, it's not gilded faucets and crystal chandeliers, but U.S. presidents have been visiting the camp for seven decades.

Since Trump has been in office he has, by some counts, been golfing 28 times, at the cost of about $40 million.

Camp David is located in the wooded hills of Catoctin Mountain Park near Thurmont, Maryland, about 68 miles northwest of Washington, D.C.

On the property is a single golf hole with multiple tees, quite different from the larger golf courses Trump is accustomed to.

As for the first lady's ensemble, fashion gawkers are calling it a victor: her Gabriela Hearst shirtdress matched with a Michael Kors belt and Louboutin flats. President Donald Trump is picking simple over swanky this weekend.

Camp David has been a frequent destination for past presidents and their families. First Lady Melania and Barron only just moved into the White House this month, after remaining in New York City while Barron finished out the school year. The two watched movies. Richard Nixon was a fan of getting away there as was Ronald Reagan.

Camp David is best known for hosting secret Middle East talks that laid the groundwork for Israel and Egypt to sign a peace accord in 1979. President George H.W. Bush hosted Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev for a round of summit talks, played tennis and zipped around in golf carts. Former President Obama had visited four times by this point in his presidency; former President George W. Bush had made 11 trips to the presidential retreat.

Apparently, it wasn't a favorite destination for President Barack Obama. It was reported that the reason he had been avoiding Camp David is because it is so secluded.

A frequent weekend traveler, Trump has favored his palatial residences in Florida and New Jersey over the wooded hideaway used by many presidents for a break from Washington.
