Trump's friend Christopher Ruddy says President 'considering' firing Mueller

White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Tuesday night said that President Donald Trump has "no intention" of firing Robert Mueller, the special counsel in charge of the Russian Federation probe.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who named Mueller to lead the investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russian Federation, testified there was no reason to dismiss him, and said that he alone has the authority to do so.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Monday that Ruddy did not speak with Trump about firing Mueller as special counsel and other White House aides suggested the Newsmax CEO was only speaking for himself.

He told senators during a committee hearing that there would have to be "good cause" for Mueller to be removed from his role. She asked about news reports suggesting that President Trump was already thinking about "terminating" Robert Mueller from his position as special counsel.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich believes special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation is a "rigged game" because most of Mueller's lawyers have donated to Democrats.

In the interview, Mr Ruddy said Mr Trump had considered replacing Mr Comey with Mr Mueller, who served as Federal Bureau of Investigation director during the George W. Bush and Barack Obama administrations.

"He actually does not know what we're investigating and I'm not going to talk about it publicly", he said.

Ruddy sparked a media firestorm on Monday when he told the "PBS NewsHour" that Trump is considering firing Mueller. The White House has denied those claims.

"The message the president is sending through his tweets is that he believes the rule of law doesn't apply to him and that anyone who thinks otherwise will be fired", Feinstein said.

Trump advisors and conservative pundits including Newt Gingrich and Ann Coulter have called for Mueller's removal.

In 1973, amid the Watergate scandal, President Richard Nixon ordered Attorney General Elliot Richardson to fire special prosecutor Archibald Cox. "It wouldn't matter to me what anybody said".

"I have determined that a special counsel is necessary in order for the American people to have full confidence in the outcome", Rosenstein said last month. "So I think the best advice would be to let Robert Mueller do his job".

Republicans in Congress are also shaking off the notion that Trump could fire Mueller.

"I've been friends the president for a long time".

Still, top Democrats on the Senate Appropriations subcommittee fumed that Sessions had abruptly canceled his appearance there, with Sen.

Gingrich and Ruddy said it would be a "mistake" for Trump to remove Mueller, although both said they see the probe as unnecessary.
