Cricket lovers had thought that this time also Indian cricket team will register a win over arch rival Pakistan, but when India cricket team started losing wickets at regular interval, hopes of the people started to fad. It is the win the whole nation wanted. We knew we were better than that.

If Zaman announced his arrival in worldwide cricket with a match-defining knock, it was pacer Mohammad Amir who finally managed to sing a redemption song that he has been longing for.

The collapse continued when left-handed opener Dhawan was caught behind off Amir.

They were eventually dismissed for 158, with 19.3 overs to spare. "But I was struggling to combine the two and I had to make a tough decision and choose one of them as a career".

He was also awarded the man of the match award for his performance.

"I was telling somebody the other day that I've had five semi-finals [in ICC events] with South Africa and never got to a final". Zaman scored a ton.

But the two openers became more convincing and in the 20th over, bowled by Ravindra Jadeja, reached their 50s from consecutive balls - Fakhar second to the milestone from one delivery fewer when he cut his seventh four straight through the hands of Yuvraj Singh at point.

With no assistance from the pitch, their limitations were thoroughly exposed against batsmen, who were ready to use their feet.

Fakhar had survived being given out off a Jasprit Bumrah no ball on just three, and that error turned out to be the defining moment of the final.

The match started at 2:30pm (PST), 2:00pm (IST) and 10:30 am at local time.

Left-arm fast Muhammad Amir kicked off Pakistan's bowling attack, taking three crucial early wickets ─ those of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan. The fate of the match was sealed.

Hardik Pandya's six-hitting in a 43-ball 76 always seemed likely to be in vain.

As the final wicket fell, Oval, immersed in a'Sea of Green', was euphoric in its celebration along with those eleven on the field.

The victory was achieved by one of the most de-glamorous outfits under one of the most unassuming captains in the history of Pakistan cricket -Sarfraz and he deserved it more than anyone else for showing the composure one expects from model captains.

In the very next over, Hasan Ali got the wicket of Dhoni as he was caught by Imad in an effort to pull a short ball.

After that Zaman didn't look back, first it was a 128-run partnership with Azhar Ali, and then a 72-run partnership with Babar Azam which put Pakistan on top.

The final flourish was provided by veteran Mohammed Hafeez (57 off 37) with help of four boundaries and three sixes.

With India bowling really well in the first couple of overs, the pressure had been piled on by Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and that pressure was rewarded with the wicket of Zaman, who edged one through to wicketkeeper MS Dhoni in the fourth over and when he was on just 3.

Ashwin and Jadeja got a pounding from Zaman, who would clear his front leg and muscle the deliveries through on-side, occasionally hitting the inside out shot through extra cover. Confident skipper vowed to put a good score on the board saying hopefully we can post more than 300.
