Getting to double digits is tough, staying there is tougher

Conditions for the final round are expected to be the windiest they have been all week and leader Harman, who posted a five-under-par 67 on Saturday, believes he is well-equipped to deal with the increased wind.

England's Tommy Fleetwood has been putting beautifully at the US Open and needs to extend his surprising roll at the championship one more day to change his life forever. I led Sunday through the 6th.

"Yeah, 12 under, I'd have about a 10-shot lead in most Opens", he said.

Kaymer got the good end of the draw when rain arrived at Pinehurst No. 2, and he opened with rounds of 65-65 to reach 10-under 130 and build a six-shot lead going into the weekend.

Harman, who is looking to become only the fourth player to win the Junior Amateur and the U.S. Open, said he was pleased with his performance on Saturday. Going into the final round, 42 players were still under par.

Fowler, sharing a house with Thomas this week, was being left behind until he ran off three straight birdies and shot 68.

"I've got a good plan for this course", he said.

Harman made a 30-foot birdie putt on the final hole to hold off Dustin Johnson and Pat Perez by a stroke.

Harman, bidding to become the first left-hander to win a U.S. Open, is a victor on the PGA Tour this year while Thomas is the world number 13, a three-time victor this season and a member of the exclusive "59" club after breaking 60 at the Sony Open this year.

But the long-hitting 26-year-old from Southport outside Liverpool is firing on all cylinders at links-styled Erin Hills and stands one shot from the lead as Sunday's final round began. "I'd love to have another one of those", Thomas said.

Another birdie rolled in on the ninth for Harman to make the turn in 34, and he went on to pick up three more shots at 11, 14 and 15 to find himself one-shot clear heading in to Sunday.

However, the world number 50 - featuring in his first major since 2015 - has played beautifully throughout the week, with accuracy off the tee a significant factor in his success. But it will be a pleasure to go out on a Sunday trying to win a major.

In defence of the U.S. Golf Association, the wide-open course was designed and set up to be played in strong winds and with firm and fast fairways and greens. He was 10 under, only two shots behind.

Erin - Rickie Fowler is confident of "getting the job done" after resurrecting his hopes of a maiden major at the US Open on Saturday.

Fowler agreed that the wide open leaderboard - none of the top 16 players have won a major - made it anyone's title to win.

On Friday, Li birdied two of his final three holes to make the cut, even hitting the flagstick with his approach shot at his 17th hole, the par-4 8th.
