Trump appears to confirm he's under investigation

Trump says those driving Russia investigation are 'very bad and conflicted people'

If the report is true and if it is confirmed that Trump obstructed justice by trying to get former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director James Comey, and perhaps others, to end the Russian Federation probe, that could lead to the President's impeachment by Congress, something that many Democratic lawmakers say they would pursue if circumstances warrant.

If Mueller is investigating Trump's firing of Comey as possible obstruction of justice, he might want to learn about Trump's interactions with Rosenstein, the Justice Department official who wrote the memo criticizing Comey's performance before his firing.

There has been growing concern among Trump and his allies that Mueller's past professional relationship with Comey is getting in the way of his investigation into Russia's interference of 2016 presidential election.

It wasn't immediately clear to whom Trump was referring to in his comment "the man who told me to fire" Comey. "Witch Hunt", the president wrote. Late on June 15, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein - who is overseeing the Russian Federation investigation - issued a statement saying the Justice Department does not confirm or deny the kind of allegations in news reports about the probe, and encouraging the public to be skeptical of them.

So, now, Trump tweets it is a witch hunt that Rosenstein is investigating him for firing Comey.

The president complained the probe is unfair and wondered why his defeated Democratic opponent wasn't getting the same scrutiny. "Why is that Hillary Clintons family and Dems dealings with Russian Federation are not looked at, but my non-dealings are?" he wrote. In an address to the country, Trump struck a notably less partisan tone in response to his first major domestic crisis.

Shortly thereafter, he followed that up with another tweet, in which he returned to one of his main themes regarding the ongoing probe: "You are witnessing the single greatest witch hunt in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people".

I can see why his Vice President Mike Pence has made a decision to lawyer up. Pence's office confirmed he had retained Richard Cullen, a former Virginia attorney general and US attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, to assist "in responding to inquiries" from Mueller.

Earlier this week, the investigation led by Mueller appeared to move closer to Trump.

The president did not directly address allegations that he is being probed for possibly obstructing justice - a potentially impeachable offense. The newspaper noted Mueller had requested interviews with CIA Director Dan Coats, National Security Agency chief Michael Rogers and Richard Ledgett, the former NSA deputy director.

Donald Trump resorted to Twitter to slam a report that special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating the President for possible obstruction of justice.

Mueller's move came after Comey said in his June 8 testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee that he intentionally handed over his memos, detailing each conversation he had with the president, over to Mueller.

Yet Trump seemed to dispute that narrative weeks ago when he told NBC's Lester Holt he had Russian Federation on has mind.

Some Republicans have called for Mueller's firing, citing alleged conflicts of interest.
