Shane Doan made his National Hockey League debut for the Winnipeg Jets the year before they moved to Arizona and became the Coyotes.

Shane Doan's Arizona Coyotes career is over.

"After serious consideration, we have chose to not offer Shane Doan a contract for the upcoming season", Arizona Coyotes owner, chairman and governor Andrew Barroway said in a statement.

In a statement, team owner Andrew Barroway said "the time has come for us to move on and to focus on our young, talented group of players and our very bright future".

In 1,540 career games, Doan scored 402 goals and added 570 assists for 972 points.

Shane Doan has yet to make an official announcement as to whether he'll play hockey next season, but the Arizona Coyotes have made a decision to part ways with the man who has become the face of the organization.

Doan, who will turn 41 in October, has been with the franchise since the team drafted him in 1995 when they were the Winnipeg Jets.

"On behalf of the entire organization, I would like to sincerely thank Shane for everything he's done for the Coyotes on and off the ice the past 21 years", Barroway said.

He is beloved by our fans, corporate partners and the media and has been a tremendous leader for us in the community, and a great role model for kids.

The Coyotes signed him for only one year last summer, shortly after John Chayka joined the club as general manager. He will be a member of our Pack forever. A report last week said Doan was leaning toward playing at least one more season.

Doan could end up with a job in the Coyotes' front office should he decide to retire.
