"Pro Syrian regime forces" had launched an attack on Ja'Din Sunday afternoon, retaking the town from the Syrian Democratic Forces or SDF, the network of Arab and Kurdish militias tasked by the US coalition to liberate Raqqa.

Russia's defense ministry said Monday that military aircraft flown by the US -led coalition over Syrian government-controlled areas west of the Euphrates River will be tracked as potential targets.

The U.S. military scored its first air-to-air kill in 18 years Sunday when a Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet obliterated a Syrian regime Su-22.

The US released a statement after the incident saying the coalition's mission is to defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

A similar incident occurred June 6, and on June 8 a USA warplane shot down a pro-regime drone in Syria after it fired at coalition forces.

The downing of the warplane is the first time in the conflict that the United States has shot down a Syrian jet.

He said government forces began attacking the SDF on Saturday, using warplanes, artillery and tanks in areas that the SDF had liberated from IS.

The army statement said it took place on Sunday afternoon near a village called Rasafah.

Russia's defense ministry says it is suspending coordination with the United States in Syria over so-called "de-confliction zones" after the Americans downed a Syrian government fighter jet. With air strikes and special forces from the US -led coalition, they had been encircling the city since November.

A number of SDF forces, who are backed by the US-led coalition, were wounded in the attack, the statement from the Combined Joint Task Force said.

Russia's Defense Ministry on Monday said it ended the agreement "preventing incidents and providing for safe flights during operations in Syria".

At the headquarters of the worldwide coalition, said that the aircraft Syrian air force dropped bombs on troops of the opposition.

Clashes between the SDF and Syrian government forces have been rare, with some rebel groups even accusing them of coordinating on the battlefield.

Russian Federation had also said it was suspending its use of the Syria hotline after United States forces struck a Syrian airbase in April, but the communications had continued.

The incident came as a monitoring group reported the first ground fighting between Syrian regime troops and the US-backed alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters.

It closely follows three coalition airstrikes on pro-Syrian regime forces in southern Syria that the coalition said were aimed at halting advances on USA and partner forces garrisoned along the Syrian-Iraqi border.
