Attention has also turned to the initial reaction to the incident.

Mohammed Kozbar said the Muslim community is "in shock".

"He did what he did deliberately to hit and kill as many Muslims as possible". They've portrayed us as if we walk around killing infidels. It seems the list is never-ending at the moment and I can not recall a time in my life when London had to deal with so many casualties in one month.

What do we know about the suspect?

Police said one man was pronounced dead at the scene and that the van driver, aged 48, had been detained by members of the public before being arrested.

- She is set to chair an emergency meeting of Cabinet members, police and security personnel on Monday morning in the wake of the Finsbury Park Mosque incident, Downing Street press office tells CNN.

On June 3, Islamic extremists used a vehicle and then knives to kill eight people and wound dozens of others on London Bridge and in the popular Borough Market area.

The van involved in the attack is marked with the livery of a hire company based on an industrial estate close to the M4, 12 miles west of Cardiff. But Ahmed says she won't let Islamophobic incident like these change who she is.

During the 2016 US presidential campaign - amid the furor of candidate Donald Trump's proposed Muslim ban - Corbyn invited Trump to visit the mosque to show him how "multicultural, multifaith" Britain works.

This idea was echoed by James Melville in an article for the Huffington Post, where he says: "Hatred breeds hatred" and referred to "tabloid newspapers with an nearly daily drip-feed demonising Muslims and creating Islamophobia".

Many local residents were angered that the media took longer to use the word "terror attack" to describe what had happened than it had two weeks ago, when three Muslim men rammed a van into crowds of people on London Bridge.

"Ramadan is a time when Muslims are more visible and when there are larger congregations who attend late at night to pray after opening their fasts", Atta said, adding that mosque security, especially around entry and exit points, must be stepped up.

A witness, who gave his name as Adil Rana, said the attacker tried to taunt onlookers as he was arrested. The man has been taken to hospital "as a precaution".

"He wanted to run away and was saying: 'I want to kill Muslims'".

London Mayor Sadiq Khan, the city's first Muslim mayor, called the incident a "horrific terrorist attack", which was "clearly a deliberate attack on innocent Londoners, many of whom were finishing prayers during the holy month of Ramadan".

Europol says the operation identified 221 "potential victims of trafficking".

A police officer talks to local people following the attack at 1am on Monday.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said: "While this appears to be an attack on a particular community, like the bad attacks in Manchester, Westminster and London Bridge, it is also an assault on all our shared values of tolerance, freedom and respect". Just as it has done in the past, it is important that London continues to react the way it did after Westminster and London Bridge.
