The first was for debris, and Larson beat Kyle Busch on the inside for the lead on the restart with 15 laps to go.

Larson also had the fastest vehicle in practice Friday, and he won at this track last August after finishing third in June.

Logano started from the fourth row but had fallen to the middle of the pack with 50 laps remaining.

Larson took the checkered flag, but Martin Truex Jr. won both Stage 1 and Stage 2 at MI to remain the Cup Series leader in stage wins.

Busch was gambling on fuel, and had the caution never come out he may have been able to win his first playoff-clinching win of the season.

Truex missed out on the pole position by seven-one-thousandths-of-a-second to Kyle Larson with a third-round lap of 35.623 seconds at 202.117 miles per hour. Ryan Blaney, who had pitted under the caution flag, ran him down and passed Busch for the race win shortly after the race restarted.

"I really like watching the race and just seeing how happy he is", says Tara Christensen. I feel like our race team has gotten even better.

Not so fast. After working on the auto during the NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifying session, Knaus ultimately decided that it wasn't feasible to fix the primary vehicle. "The 3 Chevy was really, really fast, and it was cool to win it". It was a ideal way to celebrate Father's Day for the No. 42 Chip Ganassi Racing driver, who had both his father and his son in attendance to see him capture the checkered flag.

"He would have had to have made a bobble for me to get to him", Elliott said about the final five laps.

All NASCAR said about it, attributable to "NASCAR officials", seemed fairly oblique: "NASCAR works closely with the track and our broadcast partners to build a weekend event schedule that's most advantageous for fans". While he has never won there, he has eight top-5 finishes and an average finish of 12.33 at the track. "All in all, it's a good season so far and we'll continue building on what we've got".

Larson won his second pole of the season and third of his career. Over the last ten races, four drivers have won from the pole, but five winners have started outside the Top 10 in that same span.

When asked if the tire dragon had made a difference or not, third-place finisher Joey Logano admitted he didn't know it had been used.

"For me, especially chasing this dream and growing up in California, I wanted to move to North Carolina and be in the NASCAR scene", Johnson said Thursday. "It is not just a spring or wedge", Logano said.

In his rookie season, Chase Elliott did everything but win here at MI finishing runner-up both times and leading a total of 66 laps. The multi-groove track suits his driving style well and he's got three career top-10 finishes here in six starts.

Byron held on gamely after the last restart, but the 36-year-old Hamlin was too tough. Normally Harvick is among the favorites, but not this week, which I think is a mistake. I wasn't able to stay attached to the 42.

The Xfinity race at MI began with instant drama - contact between Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch that sent Busch spinning. "Turning the momentum a bit and bringing home a solid top-five and change things".

Late in Saturday's final practice, Brad Keselowski surged to the top of the board with a lap at 197.401 miles per hour. The Rochester Hills native finished 16th.

"It was a lot better than last week for sure", Wallace said.
