The reports are confirmed: conservative commentator Hugh Hewitt is set to host a new show on MSNBC Saturday mornings, as part of the network's live weekend expansion, according to a statement.

The show will be self titled and will air on Saturdays at 8 a.m. with the inaugural episode set for June 24th.

In giving Hewitt his own show, MSNBC is sure to raise eyebrows, considering that the network has been doing well mostly on the strength of left-leaning opinion journalists like Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell. News chairman Andy Lack is known to favor hard news, and has programmed the network to feature a broader range of editorial opinions in addition to traditional newsmen like Brian Williams.

In its announcement, MSNBC listed these weekend programs: Joy Reid hosting AM Joy on Saturday and Sundays from 10 AM - noon ET; MSNBC Chief Legal Correspondent Ari Melber hosts The Point on Sundays from 5-7 PM ET; Alex Witt and Richard Lui, anchoring on weekends.

The show's title will be "Hugh Hewitt", MSNBC said. At the time, it was reported that MSNBC preferred a weekend morning show for Hewitt and that because he favored an evening show, the morning show idea was "off the table".

Last month, MSNBC finished first among cable news networks in the key adults 25-54 demo for weekday prime, beating both Fox News Channel and CNN, for the first time in almost 17 years.
