Capitol police made 43 arrests while some officers were forced to drag protesters out of the building.

"This bill is a crass political calculation carried out by 13 white, male senators who are out of touch with the realities of millions of ordinary families in every state", she said.

The statement also stated the group's protest falls on the 18th anniversary of Olmstead v. LC - the 1999 Supreme Court Ruling that first recognized disabled people's right to live in communities rather than institutions.

Charles Schumer, D-New York, Richard Durbin, D-Illinois, Benjamin Cardin, D-Maryland, Maria Cantwell, D-Washington, and Patty Murray, D-Washington, verbally jousted with McConnell and Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, R-Texas, over its provisions and how those will affect Americans.

GOP leaders hope to vote on the bill next week and can only afford two defections from the 52 Senate Republicans.

As Maplight notes, "The lack of transparency and public information about the bill makes it impossible to analyze the impact on the insurance and pharmaceutical industries, but indications from stock prices earlier this year showed investors were betting GOP legislation would be a boon for pharmaceutical companies and health insurers".

But they feel that the measure fails to accomplish what they have promised to their constituents, 'to repeal Obamacare and lower their health care costs'. It can't pass if more than two vote against it. So far, AARP, hospitals, children's health advocates and ADAPT, a national disability rights organization have blasted the bill.

Some of the protesters were yelling "no cuts to Medicaid" as they were being led away by police.

The protesters oppose the Senate version of the American Health Care Act (AHCA), also known as Trumpcare, because it has deep cuts to Medicaid. "Our lives and liberty shouldn't be stolen to give a tax break to the wealthy".

The president spoke shortly after Senate Republicans released a 142-page draft of their bill to get rid of much of Obama's law.

The measure would cut and revamp Medicaid, the health care program for lower-income and disabled people.
