Afghanistan A to replace Australia A in South Africa tri-series

Afghanistan fans will see their A team tour South Africa for the first time

"We are delighted that Afghanistan have accepted our invitation and look forward to welcoming them to our country for the very first time", Cricket South Africa chief executive Haroon Lorgat said in a statement.

It will be the first tour by any representative Afghanistan side of South Africa.

Afghanistan Chief Executive Shafiqullah Stanikzai said his playing group was relishing the opportunity to take part in the tri-series against two of world cricket's superpowers.

Post this fallout, there were reports that India and South Africa would play a five-match bilateral series, but now with the Afghanistan Cricket Board having accepted Cricket South Africa's (CSA) invitation, the tri-series would be organized as initially scheduled. With no further progress in talks, the players decided they would boycott the triangular series between the "A" sides.

Upon the advice of the Cricket South Africa (CSA), Afghanistan A replaced Australia A to play against South Africa A and India A later this month.

Afghanistan was recently given an entry into Test Cricket. "We are very pleased to accept Cricket South Africa's invitation to participate in the upcoming triangular series".

Australian cricket's loss has been Afghanistan's gain, with the new Test nation jumping at the chance to send players on a development tour of South Africa. It will be a great opportunity for the Afghan boys to play against two of the stronger teams in worldwide circuit.

The giant strides that they have made in global cricket, a just reward for which was the exhibition game against MCC XI at Lord's, demand more opportunities so that the players get to play against stop-quality sides and gain exposure. After the tri-series will conclude, India A will play South Africa A in two four-day games, with the first one starting on August 12 at Willowmoore Park, Benoni.

Playing against an Indian side that has global cricketers like Manish Pandey would surely add to the experience that the Afghans so deservingly need.
