The blast took place near Bagh-e-Naran Chowk in Hayatabad. The reason for the blast has not been ascertained yet.

At least two Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel died and five others were left injured as a powerful blast hit Peshawar's Hayatabad area early Monday.

Security sources said that the FC personnel were traveling to FC headquarters in Qila Bala Hisar when their vehicles were targeted.

Two vehicles that were part of the convoy were completely damaged in the blast.

Local media reports also indicate that a FC major is also among those killed in the attack.

According to Peshawar Cantonment SP Imran Malik, the suicide bomber was riding a motorcycle when he targeted the FC vehicle after ramming his motorcycle into paramilitary convoy and blowing himself up.

The attack in Peshawar comes a day after the Pakistan Army announced it had launched an operation in Khyber to rout Islamic State (IS) militants who it said were operating in the volatile tribal area. The security forces cordoned off the area.

Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has accepted responsibility for attack.
