Today, it has been announced that the MMO RuneScape will actually be coming to a mobile device near you soon. The RuneScape titles will become the first mainstream and established Western MMORPGs on mobile in full and the first to deliver interoperable play between PC and mobile platforms. Regular RuneScape will follow at an unspecified time. RuneScape began its life as a Java-based browser MMORPG all the way back in 2001, and it's been enjoying massive success ever since. In the meantime, players can head over to the websites of both games through the source links below and register their interest for a chance to enter the closed beta stage ahead of the official release.

RuneScape has seen multiple revisions and updates, making the current game unrecognizable to someone who played it back when it was newer. Old School RuneScape is said to be available for mobile this winter, with RuneScape following behind it in 2018. RuneScape Anywhere will allow players to jump from device to device and play the same game with the game character regardless of PC, phone or tablet.

Jagex goes mobile as RuneScape comes to smartphone and tablets

Phil Mansell, chief operating officer at Jagex added: "This is a real step change for MMORPGs and a signal of Jagex's intent to continue to push the boundaries of live games. We believe in taking our games to wherever our players want them; recent player surveys showed an overwhelming 90 percent of active players and 64 percent of former players telling us of their very high intent-to- play on mobile".
