Disappointing Windies end World Cup on losing note

England will play South Africa in the Women's World Cup semi-finals after a win over West Indies secured top spot in the group.

England will now head into the semi-finals on the back of a sixth straight victory, while West Indies will return home.

However, spinner Afy Fletcher then removed both Beaumont and Sciver in the space of three balls to put England at 91 for four, with Fran Wilson out for five following a review.

Opting to bowl, the Windies spinners did the job on a slow, turning pitch, and only captain Heather Knight with a top score of 67 and Tammy Beaumont, 42, managed to show enterprise.

An unbroken eighth-wicket stand of 48 from Jenny Gunn (31 not out) and Laura Marsh (24 not out) saw the hosts through to 220 for seven.

Fletcher finished with three wickets for 33 runs from her 10 overs.

Natalie Sciver, who hit 129 against New Zealand on July 12, took three wickets, including two in one over, as West Indies were restricted to 128 for nine, chasing a victory target of 221.

In the next over, Sarah Taylor edged a sharp catch to Matthews at slip off medium pacer Deandra Dottin, to depart without scoring at 54 for two in the 11 over.

However, a mix-up with opening partner Kycia Knight (17) led to the latter being run out by the electric Wilson at backward point, while Matthews also failed to encourage Taylor (0) to review her lbw dismissal against Marsh - ball-tracking showing the delivery would have slid past leg stump.

Sciver made amends for not contributing with the ball by taking two wickets in three balls, as Beaumont took an excellent sliding catch in the deep to see off Chedean Nation before wicket-keeper Aguilleira became the fourth player to be dismissed leg before wicket.

But once Beaumont scooped a full toss from Fletcher to the wicketkeeper in the 22 over, three wickets fell for 14 runs to leave England stumbling on 105 for five in the 26 over.

Three overs later, captain Stafanie Taylor chose not to review a questionable lbw decision and perished without scoring. The 19-year-old faced 64 balls and struck a four and a six while Nation hit a single boundary off 57 deliveries.

The World T20 champions' luck got no better as opener Matthews was trapped plumb in front by the continuously impressive Alex Hartley for a hard-earned 29.
