It's official: Disney Cruise Line plans to build a seventh ship to be completed by 2022, a move that nearly doubles the size of the company's fleet.

The ship announcement was made Saturday at the Disney Fan Cub's D23 Expo in Anaheim, Calif.

The cruise line has ordered another new cruise ship to be built and once in service, it will be the seventh in the fleet. That adds a third ship to previous plans which called for vessels to be delivered in 2021 and 2023. 'By the time all three new ships are sailing, we'll have almost doubled the size of our existing fleet'.

All will be approximately 135,000gt with about 1,250 passenger staterooms-slightly larger than 2011's Disney Dream and 2012's Disney Fantasy, at 128,000gt and the same number of staterooms.

"All ship names, design plans and itineraries are still in development, with each of the ships expected to have their own unique experiences", the statement said. Today, counting the Disney addition, there are 38 ships coming after 2019. The others are two each for Royal Caribbean International, MSC Cruises, Costa Cruises, AIDA Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line, and one for P&O Cruises.
