2017 Suzuki Swift Hybrid unveiled in Japan available in two variants

Having introduced the new generation Suzuki Swift earlier this year, the hatchback has now received a new hybrid derivative that was recently unveiled in Japan.

Suzuki Motor Corporation has launched new versions of Swift compact auto equipped with a hybrid system in Japan. The hybrid powertrain is paired to a 5-speed AMT unit.

The latest iteration of the Suzuki Swift gets a new version in Japan. The 1.2-litre petrol engine develops 91bhp and the electric setup pushes out 10kW (13.4bhp) of power.

The hybrid system present is capable of shutting off the petrol engine and transferring the propulsion duties to the electric motor when the auto is either coasting or crawling in heavy traffic.

Also standard are two driving modes - one that prioritises fuel economy, and other which focuses on energetic driving.

Swift HYBRID SL variant is equipped with paddle shift.

The Suzuki Swift Hybrid remains the same in proportions and it is the technology under the hood that has seen a change.

Thanks to the hatchback's low weight of below 1,000kg (thereby qualifying for eco-car tax breaks in Japan), the claimed fuel efficiency for the hybrid is 32 kpl. In Swift, Suzuki's hybrid system that combines the driving motor and the automatic gear shift is available in two versions- Swift Hybrid SG and Swift Hybrid SL. These include Dual Sensor Brake Support collision mitigation system - it features a monocular camera and laser sensor to detect pedestrians and vehicles ahead, and additional airbags.
