Earlier this week, Oculus also announced to temporarily cut price of its Rift headset and Touch controllers to $399 for six weeks. It will also sport some of the most sought-after features that fans wanted to add to the VR headset.

Bloomberg reported that the new Oculus VR headset will come with a $200 price tag and that Oculus will be working with Xiaomi to produce a wireless VR headset that will come in to sit below their current Rift but on top of the cheaper VR headset like the Samsung Gear VR.

That's according to Bloomberg, which claims that the so-called Oculus "Pacific" will bridge the gap between entry-level smartphone based VR - exemplified by Google Carboard - and high-end headsets that need to be hooked up to an expensive PC with a thick wodge or wires in order to function.

Oculus Rift's next VR headset would have a price drop that addresses the declining market share of Facebook Inc. division Oculus VR in the past few years, Techno Buffalo has learned. However, the new headset will be available next year and aims to make a new category for the virtual reality industry.

Commenting on the rumours, Oculus neither confirmed, nor denied, the reports: "We don't have a product to unveil at this time, however we can confirm we're making several significant technology investments in the standalone VR category".

Facebook acquired Oculus in 2014 for about $2 billion. But overall, the sources were confident that the standalone headset from Oculus will be more powerful than the Samsung Gear VR. "This is the kind of thing that we believe will exist", he said.

As for the distribution of this new VR hardware, Oculus VR laid its plans to work with Chinese company Xiami in a contract for the new headset's global distribution. The worldwide version of this headset is expected to have the Oculus branding while it will have the Xiaomi branding in China.
