The latest Trump-Macron handshake is an intergalactic death match

And Mr Macron said the U.S. leader seemed open to reconsidering when they spoke during Mr Trump's state visit to France last week. "He understood the reason for my position, notably the link between climate change and terrorism".

But not really. Trump is not exactly popular with the Australian public, two-thirds of whom opposed his election, according to an Ipsos poll.

Macron didn't sit well with Trump's view about the Paris climate agreement.

But, speaking of allies, what did they think of what Trump said in Australia, which has its own history of awkward diplomacy with the president?

"If something opposes the military chief of staff and the president, the military chief of staff goes", Macron, who as president is also the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, told Le Journal du Dimanche (JDD). Apparently, people are now more aware of Trump's alpha-male approach during handshakes.

During his first visit to Paris as president, Trump focused on the civil war in Syria and the broader coalition fight against the Islamic State in meetings with Macron and US military officials. Trump interrupted the important call just to compliment an Irish reporter about her nice smile. "We'll see what happens. We will talk about that over the coming period of time and if it happens, that will be wonderful, and if it doesn't, that'll be okay too".

Before he made his final decision on the matter, Trump was reportedly lobbied heavily to stay in the accord.

And in a transcript of an off-the-record meeting with reporters, Trump brushed off allegations of collusion with Russian Federation and said, "You know what treason is?"

Last night, Bishop raised an eyebrow over the cringeworthy comments, speculating: "I wonder if she could say the same of him?".

The U.S. president's joy appeared to crest when warplanes made their appearance.

It's entirely possible that Trump will opt to rejoin the climate accords.

Trump arrived in Paris earlier Thursday, escaping at least temporarily the darkening crisis at the White House.

BEARDSLEY: The French media closely followed the Trumps' visit with the Macrons.
