Uber driver succumbs to fire injuries after being attacked

An Uber driver who was seriously injured when his vehicle was set alight in Pretoria last month, has succumbed to his injuries.

The driver told police he was an Uber driver, however, Uber SA said the vehicle was not registered on their app.

Clashes broke out between the two groups at the Sandton Gautrain station on Monday afternoon, with metered taxi drivers accusing Uber of operating illegally. Bystanders managed to douse the flames in the taxi before it caused any major damage.

There were two other incidents in which metered taxis were stoned and petrol bombed in Sunnyside on the same day.

Both sides argue that the feud emanates for regulations and turf.

"We can only ask that you contact the Department of Transport and Minister of Police to ask for their commit on how they intend to solve these issue, as they are the only ones who can move this forward".
