The 26-year-old has been a regular with Egypt since 2011, with 39 caps being won for his country during that time.

Albion are now trying to gain global clearance for the former Fiorentina man to play against Leicester City this Wednesday.

"We're delighted to add Ahmed to the squad", said chairman John Williams. "He caught our eye at the African championships and we've been tracking him ever since".

Hegazy will be the fourth Egyptian player in the English Premier League next season alongside Arsenal's midfielder Mohamed Elneny, Stoke City's winger Ramadan Sobhy and Liverpool's newly signed winger Mohamed Salah.

West Brom, who usually adopt an ultra-defensive strategy under manager Tony Pulis, finished 10th in the Premier League last season. Hopefully he'll be a good signing for us.

"With it being a loan and, if he does well, we've already agreed a final deal". It's really, really good for us'.

After seeing a potential loan deal for Chelsea centre-back Kurt Zouma fall through, West Brom have shown interest in acquiring the services of ex-Fiorentina defender Hegazy for a reported fee of one million euros.

He spent half a year in Serie B with Perugia before joining Al Ahly on a five year deal in 2015.
