Houston Rockets Are Put Up for Sale

Billionaire owner Les Alexander said Monday in a telephone interview that he's selling the National Basketball Association team.

The Rockets have recently added Chris Paul, P.J. In recent weeks, the Rockets have been at the center of trade rumors surrounding New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony. Tucker and Luc Mbah a Moute to a 55-win team. not to mention that James Harden just recently signed a record four-year extension. This year's cutoff for that listing was $1.75 billion.

The Houston Rockets are for sale.

Alexander's been busy - and now he'll get paid in a colossal way. Now, he could be looking at getting almost $2 billion by selling it. Forbes magazine puts the franchise's value at $1.65 billion in its 2017 valuations of sports teams.

While Ballmer also paid to get into Los Angeles, the Clippers clearly play second fiddle to the Lakers in that mega market.

Interest is likely to come from far and wide, particularly from outside America with the Rockets being the number one team in Asia, mostly due to the popularity of former All-Star Yao Ming of China. "I've had the incredible opportunity to witness true greatness through the players and coaches who have won championships for the city, been named to All-Star and All-NBA teams, enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame, and done so much for our franchise and our fans".

Brown will oversee the sales process with the league office.

The 72-year-old Alexander seems to be placing more and more focus on his charitable endeavors. He's also put his Gramercy Park penthouse condo and his Baccarat Hotel & Residences condo in NY up for sale, asking for $46.5 million and $21.5 million respectively. Alexander said he would handle the transaction himself, without hiring a bank. "And the Houston community has been home to me".

There is no doubting how much Alexander cared for the Rockets over the years - or how competitive he is.

"It's been a great joy in his life and pleasure to be the owner of the Houston Rockets".

Rockets CEO Tad Brown announced the news in a press conference this afternoon.
