OnePlus 5 smartphones reboot when users call emergency services

At least one other Redditor, based in the United Kingdom, reported a similar problem in the Reddit thread.

"I had to dial 911 on my OP5 yesterday (saw a building on fire a few blocks away) and, both times I tried, my phone rebooted on me", one Redditor wrote.

Users of the OnePlus 5 are reporting a new bug in which the so-called "flagship killer" smartphone reboots whenever emergency services numbers are called - whether that's 999 in the United Kingdom or 911 in the US.

"Confirmed! I had to call 911 after a auto in front of me flipped over". We followed the same steps on our unit test and didn't face the aforementioned issue.

This issue seem to have been first discovered by a Reddit user who goes by the name of Seattle_Horn.

Whether it's been jelly scrolling or upside down display panels, the OnePlus 5 has had its share of negative attention, but this new issue might take the cake. "We ask anyone experiencing a similar situation to contact us at [email protected]", a spokesperson said.

This is obviously not ideal and one can only hope that OnePlus figure out quickly what's wrong here and send out a fix for it. Users should always have the peace of mind that they can reach emergency services on their phone should there ever be a need for it. So far, three users have claimed about the issue on their device. There is no official answer as to what causes this bug, apparently, the issue is connected to the Global Positioning System functionality of the OnePlus 5. At this time, we don't know if this is widespread or the problem is limited.
