A Microsoft Font Really Did Take Pakistan's Prime Minister Down

In the PML-N consultative session on Friday, Nawaz had proposed the name of his brother as the next Prime Minister, party sources were reported as saying by Geo News. The decision was taken during an informal party meeting headed by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Interesting reactions have been received from across the community following the Supreme Court's verdict on Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's high-profile graft case with some describing it just a momentary relief while others contemplate its moral impact on the ousted prime minister. Later, the PML-N chose to make Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Nawaz's brother, the new Prime Minister.

Speculation is rife, however, that Nawaz has suggested his brother and Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif be the party's contender for the post. PML-N leader Khawaja Asif will most likely be the interim Prime Minister.

The move comes after Sharif's disqualification by the Pakistan Supreme Court over what Raja Zafarul Haq calls a "trivial allegation". Hijazi was arrested by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) earlier this month after a report released by the joint investigation team, probing Nawaz Sharif and his family's wealth, alleged that the former SECP chairman had altered records related to Chaudhry Sugar Mills.

The 67-year-old Sharif, who has served three separate stints as prime minister, has a history of rocky relations with Pakistan's powerful military.

Known as the "Lion of Punjab", Sharif is one of Pakistan's leading industrialists and richest men as well as a fearsome political operative - having been Prime Minister twice before.

Shahbaz Sharif has run Punjab - which accounts for more than half of Pakistan's 190 million population - since 2008, emerging as a competent administrator focused on building infrastructure.

Imran Khan, who is also chief of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf party, told a news conference the decision will "strengthen democracy and the institutions" and the people will now feel that leaders are answerable to the people.

Political observers are of the view that Nawaz Sharif could use the victim card in politics and the next year's elections as he has been removed for the third time before completion of his five-year constitutional term.

On Friday, Sharif was forced to step down following a Supreme Court ruling that deemed him disqualified over corruption charges.

In seven decades, no civilian government has ever completed its term in Pakistan.

"Unfortunately, we are without a prime minister". He was sacked in 1993 by the President over graft allegations and ousted in a military coup in 1999.
