Bullpens emptied. And in a flash, it was over. It was Smith's first career pinch hit home run.

Benches cleared but no punches were thrown after shortstop Tim Anderson struck out against Marcus Stroman in the seventh inning of the White Sox' 8-4 loss to the Blue Jays Tuesday at Guaranteed Rate Field.

By taking the rubber match of a three-game series between the top teams in the National League Central, the Cubs increased their lead to 2 1/2 games over the second-place Brewers. Donaldson also had a sacrifice fly and RBI double.

Toronto rallied from a six-run deficit in the ninth inning Sunday to beat the Angels, 11-10, at home. He was winless in his previous three starts despite a 1.89 ERA in that stretch. Anderson went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, both against Stroman. There were no ejections, and Anderson stayed in the game. Of course, each player said the other was the instigator. "It seemed like he wanted to talk the entire way back to the dugout after striking out". "I got the ball back from Donaldson after throwing the ball around, and he was still continuing to talk, so I asked him what he was saying".

"I think that this victory gives us confidence, gives us the energy and the motivation to come every day trying to do our best and try to work harder", Abreu said through a translator. "But I don't understand.it made zero sense to me".

Why did it matter if Anderson was talking? "I kind of let it go and then after he struck me out, he mumbled something else, so". "I don't regret anything I did".

The White Sox rallied in the eighth on back-to-back home runs by Davidson - who delivered a two-run shot and who homered on Sunday to cap a win over the Cleveland Indians - and Yolmer Sanchez. He has a.342 batting average in 32 career games against the White Sox.

The Blue Jays notched their third straight win by way of walk-off home run.

Smoak's 31st homer, a two-run drive in the fifth, restored their lead right after the White Sox tied it while Martin's two-run single and a Donaldson RBI double in the sixth padded that edge.

The Blue Jays added three more in the sixth while chasing Mike Pelfrey (3-9) after he retired the first two batters.

Stroman allowed four earned runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts.

Toronto designated LHP Brett Oberholtzer for assignment to make room for OF Nori Aoki, who was acquired Monday in a trade that sent left-hander Francisco Liriano to Houston.

NOTES: White Sox DH Matt Davidson left the game with a bruised right wrist that he sustained when he was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning. Chicago, which has won on walk-off hits on back-to-back days, earned just its third victory in 17 games. Garcia, meanwhile, was put on the seven-day disabled list because of a concussion. White Sox OF/3B Nicky Delmonico made his big league debut several hours after he was promoted from Triple-A Charlotte. Gibbons said that one of the few pieces of guidance the Blue Jays have received on Stroman's delivery is that there has to be some continual movement in his motion, but also noted that it's still relatively new for umpires to interpret. A 20-game victor last season, Happ is 0-3 in his past four outings.
