Quitting time: Senate Republicans won't touch this

There are at least two ways that Trump can allow the Affordable Care Act to implode.

President Donald Trump today said that under his leadership the United States is doing incredibly well and the unemployment now is the lowest in 17 years.

"There's just too much animosity, and we're too divided on health care", the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee told Reuters on Monday.

In a Senate where Republicans hold a 52-48 majority, no Democrats voted for the GOP bill and three Republicans defected in the final vote early Friday.

The Affordable Care Act "was rammed through Congress by Democrats on a strict party-line basis without a single Republican vote", Mr. McCain said, and Republicans must not make the same mistake.

"I think the problem is you've got globalists like Jeff Flake who are in total disarray with real conservatives", Huckabee said.

Meanwhile, Trump knows there needs to be more discipline in the White House, Huckabee said, and he believes new Chief of Staff John Kelly is the person to accomplish that.

The first plan would have resulted in 22 million people losing insurance, premium increases and the loss of reduced deductibles and co-pays for lower income people on the exchanges.

Alexander's announcement followed the spectacular failure last week by Senate Republicans to pass their own repeal or replacement of the Affordable Care Act, former President Barack Obama's signature domestic initiative also referred to as Obamacare.

However, Trump's threats to the Congress may be futile, as the party simply does not have the votes to repeal Obamacare, despite the controversy the bill has elicited over the past years.

Mid-term elections 16 months from now may show whether Mr. Trump still has weight to throw around beyond the walls of the White House. Trump only guaranteed the payments through July.

Sen. John Cornyn of Texas says Mick Mulvaney has "got a big job, he ought to do that job and let us do our jobs". The POTUS has now bombarded tweets on Republicans asking them not to give up their fight and vote again on the healthcare bill.

President Trump is ready to move on from Russian Federation investigations and will reportedly sign new sanctions. But McConnell on Tuesday said that won't be happening anytime soon.

If the Trump administration does decide to end the payments, known as cost-sharing reductions, it could lead to higher premiums and fewer insurance plan choices in the exchanges.

The payments are the subject of a lawsuit brought by House Republicans over whether the health law specifically included a congressional appropriation for the money, as required under the Constitution. But a federal court has blocked the federal reimbursements to insurers who do that, saying the funds have yet to be properly authorized by Congress. Trump and Obama before him have continued the payments temporarily.
