Emirates Crash Probe Turns to Crew After Plane, Engines Cleared

REPORT: The Emirates Plane That Crash Landed Last Year Was In Perfect Working Order

One year on a report from the United Arab Emirates' General Civil Aviation Authority reveals there were no abnormalities on the plane, which crashed on landing.

U.A.E. investigators will look at the actions of the crew of an Emirates jet involved in a crash landing a year ago after an interim report found no problems with the aircraft systems or engines.

A report by the United Arab Emirates' General Civil Aviation Authority stopped short of assigning blame over the August 3, 2016, crash of Flight EK521 coming from Thiruvananthapuram, India. Twenty-one passengers, one flight crew member, and four flight attendants sustained minor injuries.

It added that investigations were going on to "to determine and analyze the human performance factors that influence flight crew actions".

The report raised the number of injured people to 30 from 24, but gave no reason for the increase.

An Emirates spokesperson was quoted as saying that the UAE global carrier's internal investigation is ongoing which includes a thorough review of all training and operational processes and procedures.

The regulator will continue collaborating with authorities on flight operations, human performance, training standards, procedures, aircraft systems, passenger evacuation and airport emergency response, it said in the report.

The investigation has also reviewed and identified safety enhancements related to the validity of weather information that was passed to the flight crew, and communication between air traffic control and the flight crew. The crash was the worst in the 30-year history of Dubai-based Emirates, the world's biggest airline by worldwide traffic.

The investigation into the accident will take two to three years to complete, the director general of the GCAA said in November last year.
