Jeremy Corbyn tells Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un to 'calm down'

US citizens in North Korea DOOMED if Kim and Trump continue on nuke warpath

North Korea in its current form traces its roots back to the end of World War II when the Korean Peninsula was split in two: The Soviet Union controlled the north, and the USA controlled the south.

"North Korea is a serious thing", the Minnesota Democrat said during a question-and-answer session at the progressive Netroots Nation conference in Atlanta on Friday.

"The President has to act like the President of the United States, when you hear words come out of his mouth it seems like they could come out of the mouth of Kim Jong Un", he continued. "So if you don't want to get caught, deer-in-the-headlights, start calling for diplomacy in North Korea immediately".

After the panel wrapped up, Ellison walked back his remarks to Dave Weigel of The Washington Post.

After his speech, Ellison retracted his Trump-Kim comparison, telling the Post that saying Kim Jong-Un is more responsible than Trump is "one of those I wish I'd not said", citing the comments' ability to make him look bad. I'd say, he's being incredibly irresponsible, and he's putting us in a situation where you could have an accidental launch. "It's tailor-made for somebody to misuse".

Speaking in Bristol, Mr Corbyn said: "We can not play fast and loose with nuclear weapons and nuclear threats because do you know what - a nuclear explosion doesn't stop at national borders, it doesn't stop at the vicinity where the bomb drops".

Ellison warned Trump's rhetoric could spur Kim to take action first and called for someone to bring "calm to the situation, not spiking it".

Ahrens was not alone in his criticism, as many reactions on Twitter agreed.
