Elliott released a statement on Twitter disagreeing with the suspension. That stern warning came from the league Friday after it announced Elliott's six-game suspension.

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliot has been suspended for six games by the National Football League for violating the personal conduct policy.

Elliott's suspension was the result of a yearlong investigation into the star running back over domestic violence allegations.

"I recognize the distraction and disruption all of this has caused my family, friends, teammates, the Dallas Cowboys organization as well as my fans, for that I am sincerely sorry", the statement read.

Earlier Friday, Elliott's representatives responded to the news, saying the league's findings are "replete with factual inaccuracies".

The NFL however does hold the power to penalize a player without legal charges. The hearing must take place within ten days of Elliott filing the appeal.

With the Cowboys having depth issues in recent seasons at quarterback (remember 2015) and even previous year when Tony Romo and Moore were both injured before the preseason even ended, the third-string quarterback spot is of vast importance to this roster. If his ban is not overturned, he will have to sit out the Cowboys' first six games and will not be able to practice with the team or use its facilities until the suspension ends. And certainly we have done that and are comfortable with who we are on this football team. The proceedings over the league's punishment could then "drag out a long time", Robinson noted.
