They also stressed the need for efforts to relaunch political peace talks in the Arab country and provide humanitarian aid for the people of Yemen who are facing starvation and are buckling under a blockade.

In a meeting in Tehran, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the visiting UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed discussed the latest developments in the country.

He also called on Iran to support the UN's efforts in this regard.

The two officials also exchanged views about new initiatives for a solution to the political stalemate in Yemen.

The Iranian diplomat, for his part, expressed concern over the serious humanitarian crisis in Yemen, and voiced Tehran's support for the UN's efforts to end the war and crisis in the Arab country. Leading a number of its vassal states, Saudi Arabia launched the military aggression on Yemen to eliminate the Houthi Ansarullah movement and reinstall a Riyadh-friendly former president.
