In the massive encounter underway in Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir since last night, a terrorist has been neutralised on Sunday as security forces have been giving a strong response. Two-three terrorists are suspected to trapped.

He said as the security forces were conducting searches, the militants opened firing on them which was retaliated by the law enforcement personnel, triggering a gunfight.

On the same day (August 9), the Army confirmed the killing of 5 terrorists in Kashmir's Machil sector.

The injured soldiers have been evacuated to the 92 Base Hospital of the Army for treatment.

Police strongly denied rumours that a mosque was damaged during the gunfight between the security forces and the militants.

They said that the operation was still going on.

Unconfirmed reports said two militants had been killed during the gunfight, but there has been no official confirmation of this so far.

Earlier, a search operation was launched by the security forces in Noorabad village of Pulwama's Tral area but the militants hiding in there managed to escape under the cover of darkness, the sources said.

Seven civilians had sustained pellet injuries during clashes.
