Mets reportedly trade second baseman Neil Walker to the Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets have agreed to a trade that will send second baseman Neil Walker to Milwaukee, sources tell FanRag Sports.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports first reported the Brewers and Mets were "close" on a deal sending Walker to Milwaukee.

The Mets are moving Walker on the heels of dealing Jay Bruce to the Indians as they shed veterans and salary after the trade deadline through waiver deals. A report earlier in the week suggested a couple of teams, including the New York Yankees, wanted Neil Walker, but ultimately chose to go another route and used the excuse of his medical reports to back out of the trade. The Mets have fallen out of the playoff race, entering Saturday at 52-61.

The 31-year-old infielder entered play on Saturday hitting.264/.339/.442 with 10 homers, 13 doubles and 27 RBIs over 73 games. The Brewers are just three games behind the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central, so the addition of Walker gives the team hope of trying to close that gap over the final seven weeks of the regular season. Harvey has been on the disabled list since June 16 with a stress injury to his right scapula.
